Luz Mabel Ávila

Dr. Avila Portillo is a bacteriologist at the Universidad Católica de Manizales, she has a master’s degree in biomedical sciences (immunology) from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and a doctor in pharmaceutic sciences by the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. In addition to her university titles, she has specialized in various complementary studies, like business coaching, medical education, cellular culture, bioinformatics, development projects, advanced therapies and procedures, and isolation techniques in the expansion of cellular cultures of hematologic progenitors and mesenchymal cells. 

Dr. Avila Portillo also has wide experience in the clinical investigation area. She has directed multiple theses and has published twenty-eight articles in indexed journals in Scielo, Lilacs, and Pubmed. Has received recognition in Minciencias and the field of technology as an associate investigator, and evaluator, and is affiliated with scientific societies such as American College of Rheumatology (ACR), Asociación Colombiana de Hematología y Oncología (ACHO), Innovative Cellular Therapeutics (ICT) and International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR). 

Nowadays, Dr. Avila Portillo is a professor in the Faculty of Medicine of Universidad de La Sabana and professor in the doctorate of clinical investigation, extramural professor in the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and Colegio Mayor de Cundinamarca. She is the scientific director of INNOCELL and STEM Medicina Regenerative.
