Launch of the Spondyloarthritis Clinic of Excellence
August 2, 2025 – Central Military Hospital, Bogotá

On August 2, 2025, the Spondyloarthritis Clinic of Excellence at the Central Military Hospital was officially inaugurated. This is a pioneering project in the region that seeks to transform care, diagnosis, and medical training related to this disease.

Why is this clinic important?

Spondyloarthritis is an inflammatory disease that primarily affects the spine and joints, with a significant impact on patients’ quality of life. Early diagnosis and proper management are essential to avoid irreversible complications.

Until now, the most widely used teaching and clinical practice model has been the classic Anglo-Saxon model. However, this does not fully reflect the reality of Latin American patients, whose clinical and social characteristics require a tailored approach.

The Spondyloarthritis Clinic of Excellence emerged in response to this need: an academic and healthcare space that promotes a Latin American model, tailored to our context, with the aim of improving the quality of care and offering tools that are more relevant to the reality of physicians and patients in the region.

Main Objectives

  • To raise awareness of the Latin American model for the presentation and management of spondyloarthritis.
  • To train medical students and residents, providing them with a comprehensive and up-to-date view of the disease.
  • To promote clinical research in spondyloarthritis from a regional perspective.
  • To foster multidisciplinary care, integrating specialties such as rheumatology, dermatology, gastroenterology, and ophthalmology.
